The Sacrament of Reconciliation (Confession)
Like the merciful father in the parable of the prodigal son, God is eager to forgive, adds Pope Francis: “Each time we go to confession, God embraces us. God rejoices!”—(General Audience Feb. 2014).
The Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick
“Is any among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord”—(James 5:14).
Perhaps many of us remember a time when this sacrament was celebrated only for those who were dying. However, any illness of a serious nature can be a legitimate reason to celebrate the sacrament. What’s more, the sacrament may be repeated if the sick person recovers after the anointing but becomes ill once again or if, during the same illness, the person’s condition becomes more serious. Please notify the parish office at 508-852-3232 when a family member is hospitalized or confined to a nursing home or residence. Prayers, visits, and the sacraments are our part in their care and healing.
By the sacred anointing of the sick and the prayer of the priests, the whole Church commends those who are ill to the suffering and glorified Lord, that he may raise them up and save them, and indeed, she exhorts them to contribute to the good of the people of God by freely uniting themselves to the Passion and death of Christ.
To be added to the list of people to visit, please call our parish Parish Office at 508-852-3232.
